It’s official, The Boy who Lived is back! Sporting ‘threads of silver’ and a new scar on his cheek, 34 year old Harry Potter has returned in a 1500 short story by the magical hands of J.K Rowling.
As a huge Harry Potter fan, I am absolutely enthralled that the Millionaire author has decided to release an article that answers all the questions of what the most exceptional characters are up to now! So let’s welcome back the beloved trio and their friends as we embark on their new journey Featured on Pottermore.com website and written from the perspective of gossip columnist Rita Skeeter of The Daily Prophet, the article titled ‘Dumbledore’s Army Reunites’, Harry is joined by his humble and lovable friends as they reunite at a traditional tournament of the broomstick-riding game of Quidditch and explores what our giddy group of wizards and witches are up to now.
In the short story, Harry Potter, now a successful Aura (elite unit of specialist officers trained to catch Dark Wizards) and his two sons, James and Albus last seen in the epilogue in the final novel The Deathly Hallows, attend the 2014 Quidditch tournament.
Harry is joined by his fiery red headed companion, Ron Weasly, whose hair is now thinning, has worked with the Ministry of Magic along with Harry, only to have left to co-manage his twin brothers successful magic shop Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes. Skeeter reminds us of the destruction of horcruxes in the final books, the only way to defeat Voldemort, speculating that these horcruxes have impacted on Ron’s mental well being: “Was the work of the Auror Department too much for a man who has admitted that the destruction of He Who Could Not Be Named’s Horcruxes ‘took its toll’ on him? “
Hermione Granger now a deputy head in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, and is “now tipped to go even higher within the Ministry” there was never a doubt in my mind that Hermione, a very astute role model and inspiration to women across the globe, has become such a great success, I applaud her character and of course how Rowling has crafted her throughout the series. Questions are hanging over the marriage between Ron’s sister, Ginny Weasly now turned journalist and Harry. In the short it reads: “Are cracks beginning to show in a union that the Potters are determined to promote as happy?” writes Skeeter.
Although claims have been made that Rowling would have considered making Harry and Hermione a couple, it is to my belief that this is a novel written in the voice of Rita Skeeter, so little gossips hints here and there reflect the different ways in which the series could of become, so I do conquer that this is just an effective way of revaluating herself with what she said.
The article is part of a series of pieces written by Rowling about the 2014 Quidditch Cup for Pottermore. The final article was published on 11 July. And don’t worry Potter fans, we have yet to embark on another magical adaptation of ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ with Rowling making her script debut and producer of Harry Potter David Heyman will be returning to work on the franchise. Yes, it will be released in November 2016, but it will be a trilogy of films!
So gather your wands and broomsticks, the magic is coming home!
