The humble pair of sunglasses. Not only are they essential for protecting our eyes from the harmful effects of the sun, but they are also a fashion statement too. Ray-Ban Aviators – Top Gun 

Originally developed in the 1930s, these sunglasses were used by pilots to shield their eyes when flying, leading to them being named ‘Aviators’. 

Their moment came in the 1980s when Tom Cruise made them iconic in the movie Top Gun. In the role of Maverick, Cruise was a heady mix of style, charisma, and danger. The Aviator has remained a classic choice ever since. They’ll also be making an appearance in the upcoming Top Gun II. 

Vintage Versace – The Devil Wears Prada

Meryl Streep’s performance as scathing high-fashion editor Miranda Priestly is one of her best performances (and that’s saying something). The demanding boss with an immaculate wardrobe, Miranda also wore a pair of fantastic gold-rimmed vintage Versace sunglasses.

Tom Ford later launched a similar style called the Miranda, so if you’re looking to channel your inner fashion Maven, you can. That’s all.

Luc Besson’s cult favourite. Leon is a low key assassin, who takes a young Natalie Portman under his wing when he reluctantly rescues her from Gary Oldman‘s corrupt cop, who has murdered her family. An unlikely fashion icon, Jean Reno wears these vintage round sunglasses. While you’ll find it difficult to find the exact model now, there have been many similar styles produced over the years.

Oliver Goldsmith Manhattan – Breakfast At Tiffany’s

In a movie so full of famous fashion, these sunglasses are some of the most famous in screen history. Hepburn plays quirky socialite Holly Golightly, who catches the eye of struggling writer Paul, who has just moved into her building.

While it’s difficult to get your hands on a pair of these sunglasses without having a huge bank balance, there are many similar styles out there that can give you the same Audrey Hepburn vibe.
